Background
The Water Framework Directive is currently being implemented in the UK and across the EU. It has as its main aim the management and improvement of the water environment. A key requirement of the Directive (Article 14 – Public Information and Consultation) encourages the active involvement of interested parties in the implementation of the Directive.
Interested parties include those organisations which have the necessary powers and procedures and can deliver components of a river basin management strategy; those individuals and organisations who make use of, and have an impact on, the water environment; and those who might benefit from improvements to the water environment.
What does the Information Centre do?
The Information Centre is a central source of information about the Directive. It helps a wide range of interested parties understand what the Directive involves and raises awareness of how it will lead to an even cleaner and healthier water environment. The objective is to complement the activities of the key organisations, such as government and the environmental regulators, which are closely involved in the implementation of the Directive.
What is the Foundation for Water Research?
The Foundation for Water Research is an independent charity dedicated to education and information exchange. It was founded in 1989 and its mission is to advance the education of the public in science, engineering and management of water through specialist forums, reviews of current knowledge, publishing and information support.
