Draft water company statutory drought plan guideline
Environment Agency Consultation

Water companies must revise their drought plans every three years. The Environment Agency have revised their guidance on water company drought plan for companies to follow when preparing their second round of statutory drought plans, from 2011. The Agency has worked with the water industry and Government to prepare this draft guidance that sets out what is legally and technically required in a water company’s drought plan. They have revised all sections, with the most significant changes being made to guidance on environmental assessment and monitoring, drought management actions and drought orders and permits. The Agency would like to hear views on the recommendations on what technical information water companies should include in their plans.

The consultation runs from 22 October to 17 December 2010.

The EU Framework Programme FP8: call for evidence
The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS)

BIS has recently launched the FP8 call for evidence to inform the UK's position for the forthcoming FP8 negotiations. This call for evidence document sets out details of the background to, and UK participation in, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development and explores areas where BIS would like to seek further views.
The consultation period will last for 12 weeks and closes on 4 January 2011.

Getting the best from our land - A draft land use Strategy for Scotland

Scottish Government Consultation: for discussion and feedback

Scotland’s first Land Use Strategy provides the long-term framework for sustainable land use. It sets out Minister’s objectives for sustainable land use and the proposals and policies, which contribute to meeting those objectives. The strategy must contribute to other obligations under the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 on emissions reduction targets, climate change adaptation objectives as well as sustainable development. The Land Use Strategy will be laid by Scottish Ministers before the Scottish Parliament by 31 March 2011.

SUDS series of papers

Micro Drainage Ltd is preparing a series of articles that will deal with SUDS to develop and provide a systematic approach to sustainable drainage. The first paper, published in Water Active, Volume 5, Issue 1, p 21, explores how the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 affects the implementation of SUDS. Future papers in the series will cover planning, preliminary design, detailed design and auditing SUIDS for extreme rainfall.
