RBM planning – stakeholder involvement

Northern Ireland National Stakeholder Forum

At a workshop on Stakeholder Participation, held in April 2005, the Terms of Reference for a national Stakeholder Forum were established and shortly afterwards the membership of the Forum was agreed upon. The membership of the Forum covers a wide range of interests, including the environment, industry, agriculture and conservation.

The first meeting of the Stakeholder Forum was held on the 30 June 2005. The minutes and all presentations and papers from the Stakeholder Forum meetings are available on the Northern Ireland Government website:

Catchment stakeholder groups

Nine catchment Stakeholder Groups are being formed to provide a forum for anyone interested in local water issues to identify their concerns to both Statutory Agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations and have these addressed at a local level.

In Northern Ireland the Environment Agency (NIEA) is taking the lead in implementation of the WFD and is actively seeking to engage with all stakeholders interested in the water environment. It invites anyone who runs a farm or an industrial business, or is a member of an angling club or conservation group, is involved in a community group, or would like to know more about their local water environment, to come along to debate the key problems affecting waters throughout Northern Ireland.

The current programme of meetings and who to contact is available on the NIEA website:
