Environment for Europeans, Issue 22,
January 2006

In this issue, Environment for Europeans focuses on three of the European Commission’s new Thematic Strategies, being developed under the EU’s Sixth Environment Action Programme. There will be seven in all, covering air pollution, the marine environment, sustainable use of resources, waste prevention and recycling, soil, the urban environment and pesticides.

The Thematic Strategies are based on comprehensive research and consultation. They take a holistic approach to some of today’s most pressing environmental issues, using a range of cost-effective policy options and simplifying legislation wherever possible.
