WATER FOOTPRINT REPORTING – MAPPING THE WAY FORWARD 2009
Brussels, Belgium
This executive summit on Water Footprint Reporting in Brussels is organised by the European Networking Group.
Water scarcity and overall water quality is gaining priority for business as the effects of climate change become even more apparent. Limited water availability is a risk to business, it can cause rising material costs, disruptions to supply, increased competition and conflicts with local governments and communities.
This event will provide tools to assess water use throughout the global supply chain and to brainstorm with environmental executives who need insights into the challenges and risks in water management. The summit will investigate the role of business versus the role of governments and consumers and will map out the road to shared global standards.

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE RESTORATION OF FISH POPULATIONS
Dűsseldorf, Germany
This workshop is organised by Landesamt fűr Natur, Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz Nordrhein-Westfalen (State Agency for Nature, Environment and consumer Protection in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany).
A considerable volume of information and expertise has been gathered over 50 years of fish restoration trials and the present conference provides an opportunity to bring together experts from all around the world to exchange experiences and technical data, to improve and optimise current fish restoration projects and to plan for the future. The key aim of this symposium is to synthesize international knowledge on fish restoration by facilitating the presentation of original research results from a number of different disciplinary fields.
Hosting the conference is the EU’s “European Life Project” for the restoration of the Allis shad (Alosa alosa) to the River Rhine. This anadromous fish died out in the Rhine in the first half of the 20th century. However a project to restore the species to the Rhine was started in 2003. In 2008 the first shad were re-introduced to the river. Research data communicated during the course of this Workshop shall be used to optimise the goals of this project and several others.

CPHCO2009 The Copenhagen Climate Exchange 2009:
Copenhagen, Denmark
The Copenhagen Climate Exchange 2009 is a four-day exhibition and fair leading up to COP15, the official UN climate summit in Copenhagen, December 2009. It is organised by the Danish Society for Nature Conservation and the themes will be renewable energy, energy savings, climate adaptation, local sustainable solutions, biodiversity etc. The Copenhagen Climate Exchange is inspired by the Cool Cities campaign initiated by The Sierra Club in the US. The project involves more than 1000 cities and counties so far. Cool Cities illustrates that local politicians and citizens can achieve practical and sustainable solutions to the climate crisis. The purpose of the exhibition is to promote the many existing solutions to climate change, where public participation and the individual remain the key components. The CPHCO2009 is hosting a range of activities, workshops, debates and speeches during the event. The specific programme has been divided into three parts: a Political, a Technical, and a Cultural programme.
The aim is to integrate a wide number of different speakers, scientists, organizations and key stakeholders within the global climate sector, in order to bring forth and discuss new ways of dealing with climate change.

COP15: UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE 2009
Copenhagen, Denmark
The sessions (COP 15) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is open to Parties of the Convention and Observer States (Governments), the United Nations System and observer organizations duly admitted by the Conference of the Parties. In addition, accredited press is allowed to cover the proceedings of the Convention.
The ambition of the Danish government is that the COP15 conference in Copenhagen will result in an ambitious global agreement incorporating all the countries of the world. Developments in the world since the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated in 1997 show that a new agreement is needed. China has replaced the USA as the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and the price of oil has soared. This is a reminder of the fact that fossil fuels do not merely pollute; they are also a source of energy whose reserves are constantly being reduced. The aim of the Danish government is to achieve an agreement that both reduces the total quantity of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and is supported by as many countries as possible.

NOVATECH 2010 - 7TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGIES FOR URBAN WATER MANAGEMENT First Announcement
Lyon, France
Since 1992, Novatech conferences have been held every three years in Lyon. Novatech is an international scientific and technical symposium, dealing with urban water management under storm weather conditions. Looking for sustainable solutions for urban water management under storm weather conditions is relevant only if it takes into account appropriate spatial scales and all stakeholders to be involved. In addition, the future urban stormwater management will have to strongly consider the preservation of natural ecosystems, and of human health, the context of climate change and sustainable development. The 7th Novatech conference will deal with three complementary dimensions of urban water management under storm weather conditions:
- Integrated approaches for urban planning and operation;
- Innovative technologies;
- Integrated approaches for the protection and enhancement of receiving water bodies.
The call for papers focuses on two types of contributions:
- Scientific papers: presenting methods or results of fully-developed operational or fundamental research, based on literature studies, laboratory work, modelling or field studies; papers without any linkage to practical operation or experience will not be accepted.
- Case study papers: addressing innovative operational applications, using scientific analysis or assessment.

12TH IWA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WETLAND SYSTEMS FOR WATER POLLUTION CONTROL
Venice, Italy
Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been adopted by many Italian communities as a cost-effective means of secondary and tertiary wastewater treatment, in order to meet more stringent standards and to lower operating costs. Some small systems have now been in existence for nearly 15 years, while wetland treatment systems for larger towns and small cities have become a more recent trend. Since 1999 CWs have been ‘officially’ recognised as a treatment technology.
Following several positive experiences with municipal and domestic wastewater treatment, there is now an increasing number of projects and realisations of CWs for diffuse pollution, like agricultural runoff, highway and urban runoff (SUDs, CSOs,..), for industrial applications (wineries, landfill leachates, animal breeding,..) and finally for “Ecosan” related facilities (wastewater segregation, reuse,…). The conference is organised by the Italian Section of the IWA Specialist Group on the Use of Macrophytes in Water Pollution Control.
